MADRID: Real Madrid claimed their 14th successive win in all competitions by 3-0 over Sporting Gijon in the Spanish league, a week ahead of the Clasico in the capital against Barcelona who thrashed Levante 5-0.

Madrid took the lead in the 35th minute when Angel Di Maria robbed Sporting full back Damien Suarez before beating keeper Juan Pablo on his near post. In the 64th minute Di Maria set up Cristiano Ronaldo for Madrid’s second goal and Marcelo made it 3-0 with a left foot shot in stoppage time.

Barcelona had no problems disposing the fourth-placed side in La Liga. They led 3-0 at half-time on goals from Cesc Fabregas and youngster Isaac Cuenca. Leo Messi and Alexis Sanchez added further goals in the second half.
