BASEL/MARSEILLE:  Internazionale defeated Bayern Munich in the 2010 Champions League Final. Both clubs are still alive in this season’s tournament but must reverse single-goal losses to reach the quarter-finals. Inter lost 1-0 in Marseille and Bayern by the same margin in Basel. Both goals came in the closing minutes.

Valentin Stocker scored four minutes from time to earn Basel, group conquerors of Manchestr United, their  success over Bayern in the  St Jakob-Park. Stocker was left unmarked to slot the ball between keeper Manuel Neuer’s legs. Earlier the Swiss side had twice hit the posts with Bayern looking unusually fragile in defence.

The Stade Velodrome thrilled to a stoppage-time header from Andre Ayew which edged Marseille to victory over Inter whose latest in a run of defeast added to  the pressure on coach Claudio Ranieri. Inter came into the game on the back of a 3-0 defeat last Friday against  Bologna, their third successive home defeat.
