WARWICK: Anna Turney has returned to Warwick with a big smile on her face, having finished 4th overall in Europe this winter. She won a silver and six bronze Europa Cup medals and a further silver and two bronze medals in International Paralympic Committee races, qualifying her for World Cups (the highest level of competition). Anna’s World Ranking is now 9th in Super G.

However Anna will not be able to continue racing if she cannot raise the £20,000 it costs to race each year.

“I am thrilled with my season! I was pleased Silver and Bronze medals in the Europa Cup Finals in Auron, France in Super G in March, finishing closer than ever before behind the World Champion in Giant Slalom! Qualifying for World Cups was the highlight of my season and I was disappointed that I didn’t have the money to race in World Cups this year. It would be wonderful if I can afford to race next year. The ultimate goal is to win a medal in the 2014 Sochi Paralympics.”

Anna has made huge progress under new coaches from Canada, Rip Pridday and Sue Greenberg:

“It is great to see how comfortable Anna is at speed… We’re impressed and definitely see her as a medal contender for Sochi 2014″ Sue Greenberg, GB coach.

“The season just got better and better as my confidence grew. My good results are thanks to hard work with my coaches and great training in Serre Chevalier, France, where the Hotel Plein Sud sponsors me. It has been my most successful season yet!

Anna is back at work now, doing Motivational Work for the Dame Kelly Holmes Legacy Trust and Motivational Speaking, but will also be training hard this summer in preparation for racing in next year’s World Cup Circuit, and aiming to qualify for the 2014 Sochi Paralympics.”

Great Britain finished 8th in the 2012 European Rankings.

Anna broke her back as the result of a snowboarding accident in 2006 when she aspired to race for GB. She has only been competing in Alpine Skiing for 4 years and is on track to achieve her ultimate aim of winning a gold medal in the 2014 Sochi Paralympic Games.
