ATHENS: After banning four Turkish clubs from Europe for infringing financial fair play regulations, UEFA has now turned its attention on Greek football again writes KEIR RADNEDGE.
AEK Athens have been banned from next season’s Europa League for – rather like the country – running up debts far beyond their means to repay.
President Andreas Dimitrelos said that his club, 11 times national champions, is now E35m in the red with no immediate hope of financial rescue. AEK have also been banned from signing new players this summer by the Greek federation.
