DONETSK: World Cup Final Howard Webb will set the tone for the knockout stage of Euro 2012 after being named by European federation to referee the first match of the quarter-finals, between Czech Republic and Portugal in Warsaw tomorrow.

The Czechs may have mixed feelings: the Yorkshire policeman refereed their opening 4-1 defeat by Russia. Webb also refereed the 1-1 draw between Italy and Croatia in Gdansk.

Slovenia’s Damir Skomina will referee Germany v Greece on Friday in Gdansk, while Nicola Rizzoli of Italy will handle Spain v France on Saturday in Donetsk. The referee overseeing the last quarter-final between England and Italy in Kyiv on Sunday night will be Pedro Proença of Portugal.

Extra attention will follow the goal-line assistants after the controversy in Donetsk on Tuesday night when Ukraine were refused an ‘over the line’ goal against England.
