MONTE CARLO: Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been hailed as 2012 winner of the Golden Foot award. The Sweden striker from Qatari-owned, high-spending Paris Saint-Germain  topped a four-month internet poll among fans from a 10-name list of contenders.

‘Ibra’ received his prize from Pelé who was himself presented with yet another  “greatest footballer of all time” at Champions Promenade presentation in Monaco.

Ibrahimovic, 31, won eight league titles in a row between 2003 and 2011 with Ajax Amsterdam, Juventus, Internnazionale, Barcelona and Milan.

Former players who received awards for their contribution to the game included Italy’s Franco Baresi, Germany’s Lothar Matthaus and Frenchman Eric Cantona.

All the award-winners left a footprints on the cement on the Champions Promenade along the Monaco seafront.

As usual, the awards ceremony was undertaken alongside the SPORTELMonaco sports marketing event.
