BERLIN:  German champions Borussia Dortmund have reported a 22.4pc rise in  revenues for the first half of the 2012-13 financial year while its pre-tax profit also rose by €800,000 to €17.5m compared with the same period last year.

The period spanning July 1 to December 31 saw turnover grow to €124.1m from €101.4m in the first half of the 2011-12 financial year – a campaign in which Dortmund broke the €100m threshold for the first time over a six-month period.

“The figures we announce today are further proof of the ever-growing economic strength of the BVB,” said ceo Hans-Joachim Watzke. “However, our core principle of sustainability before speed will remain.”

While the Ruhr valley club remain in contention in this season’s Champions League and DFB Cup they lie second in the league table but 17 points behind leader Bayern.

Dortmund’s last full-year financial report saw the generation of record revenues of €215.2m for the 2011-12 financial year.

The figures came off the back of another successful season in which Dortmund retained the Bundesliga title and also won the DFB-Pokal by defeating Bayern Munich 5-2.

Along with reporting a 42.1pc rise in revenues to a record high in the club’s 103-year history, Dortmund turned a profit of €39.3m before tax. Dortmund endured highly-publicised problems in the wake of the 2002 Bundesliga title when the club came  close to bankruptcy before recovering in 2005.
