MONROVIA: Musa Bility, president of the Liberian federation, has promised to appeal over what he perceives as a personal vendatta by African football president Issa Hayatou.

Last Thursday CAF announced that Bility had been suspended from all football activiti for six months and the Liberian FA fined $10,000 because he “used confidential CAF documents without permission.”

The documents were executive committee minutes but CAF issued no further clarification.

However Bility was among leaders last year of a bid to prevent changing its statutes to protect Cameroonian Hayatou’s long-term presidency against a potential challenge from Jacques Anouma of Ivory Coast.

In September an extraordinary Congress approved amended rules permitting only executive committee members with full voting rights to stand for the presidency. This ruled out Anouma because, even though he is a CAF delegate to the FIFA executive, that status does not grant him full action within CAF’s ruling body.

Bility told local media that the ban lacked any justification and was “blatantly wrong.”

He believed it to have ordered because Liberia had sought, without success, to challenge the rule change at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
