CARDIFF: Frazier Campbell bundled in two late goals as Cardiff City hit back from a goal down to upset Manchester City and win their first home game in the Premier League 3-2.

City manager Manuel Pellegrini will need to take his defenders out on the training ground and teach them how to deal with set pieces. Both Campbell’s goals were close-range header attempts from corners, the first from the right the second from the left.

Edin Dzeko had thumped City, Premier League title favourites, into a deserved lead in the 52nd minute with a drive from just outside the penalty box.

Cardiff hit back through Aron Gunnarsson on the hour but appeared at risk of being overwhelmed before they raced away twice to win the corners which Campbell bulleted past England keeper Joe Hart, albeit one was a header and one off a shoulder.

Clearly City badly missed injured Vincent Kompany and Matija Nastasic out of the centre of defence.

Spain striker Manuel Negredo, on as a substitute, headed his first Manchester City goal in the second minute of stoppage time but it was not enough to save them from a shock defeat.

Pellegrini said: “Of course nobody believed they could score two goals  against us from set pieces but football is like: you have to concentrate at these plays. Cardiff won the match but I think we played better. Two corners decided the game.”

Cardiff manager Malky Mackay said: “We were fantastic to a man.”

In North London Tottenham recorded a second win of term with a hard-won 1-0 defeat of defiant Swansea. Roberto Soldado scored the winner from a 58th-minute penalty.
