ZURICH: FIFA has confirmed the proposal by president Sepp Blatter that its governing executive committee will discuss next month the timing of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

The issue is listed way down the agendat at point 25.2 on sports/political issues in the agenda for the exco meeting at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich on October 3-4.

Other topics up for discussion include progress on the delicate negotiations between the national associations of Palestine and Israel as well as the latest steps undertaken by the Task Force Against Racism and Discrimination.

The exco will also hear a report from British vice-president Jim Boyce about the World U-20 Youth Cup in Turkey which will doubtless consider the issue of poor attendances at a time when the host nation was seeking to demonstrate its enthusiasm for sport ahead of bids for the 2020 Olympics and – as it turned out – the final matches in the 2020 European Championship.
