ZURICH / RIO DE JANEIRO: Global music superstar Ricky Martin is inviting football and music fans from all over the world to take part in the FIFA World Cup Official Music Programme by submitting songs for the Official Album of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.

FIFA together with its Partner Sony, today unveiled details of “SuperSong”, a world-wide music contest involving aspiring musicians and football fans. Ricky Martin will be among the judging panel to hand-pick the winning song, which he will also perform for inclusion on the Official Album of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™.

Music is of integral importance to the Brazilian people, deeply rooted in their culture, and will certainly play a huge role in the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ as it has done in past editions. The SuperSong competition, along with the Official World Cup song, which will be released in mid-2014, will undoubtedly contribute to the rhythm of next year’s flagship football tournament.

“The Official Slogan of the 2014 FIFA World Cup is All In One Rhythm. It’s therefore fantastic that our Partner Sony will be giving football & music fans from all over the world the opportunity to join in the rhythm with the launch of the ‘SuperSong’ contest.” said FIFA’s Marketing Director Thierry Weil. “Sony’s idea to give aspiring musicians this once in a lifetime opportunity is a great contribution to the creative success of the 2014 FIFA World Cup. I’m looking forward to seeing the song proposals.”

Starting on December 2, Sony and Ricky Martin will be inviting aspiring musicians and football fans from around the world to submit their videos of original song proposals for the 2014 World Cup at www.SuperSong.com. Once the submission phase closes on January 6, the ‘SuperSong’ judging team will narrow the songs down to a Top 20.

A panel of experts from Sony Music Entertainment, and online music and football fans, will then have  an opportunity to vote for the 5 finalists via www.SuperSong.com. From these finalists, Ricky Martin & the ‘SuperSong’ judging team will choose & announce the ultimate winner in February 2014.

The winner will travel to Puerto Rico to work with Ricky Martin and a top music producer on the final version of the song, which will be recorded by Ricky Martin & included on the Official Album of the 2014 FIFA World Cup™, to be released by Sony Music Entertainment in 2014.

The winner and a guest will also travel to Brazil where they will be VIP guests of Sony at the final match of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in July 2014 and also receive additional prizes from Sony.

Ricky Martin said, “It is a true honor to be able to collaborate with ‘SuperSong’. I am extremely happy and humbled that I was asked to launch this special contest where fans have an opportunity to co-write the final version of the song with me. I think it is a brilliant idea and I’m grateful to be part of this important initiative.”

“We are very pleased to offer this unique opportunity for aspiring artists, music lovers and football fans from around the globe to share in the excitement of the 2014 FIFA World Cup.” said Soichi Kawachi, VP in charge of brand at Sony Corporation. “At Sony, we are dedicated to continually providing new and innovative forms of entertainment, and ‘SuperSong’ perfectly matches this philosophy.
