NYON: Russia’s CSKA Moscow must play their next home game in European competition behind closed doors after UEFA maintained its more aggressive campaign against racist abuse.

Cypriot club Apollon Limassol and Serbia Under-21s have also been punished in the latest disciplinary crackdown.

CSKA’s fans displayed racist and far-right symbols in the Czech Republic during a 2-1 defeat by Viktoria Plzen last December 10 in the Champions League. They were also fined €50,000 after having been cautioned for fan abuse during the home tie against Manchester City.

Apollon Limassol received a partial home stadium closure at its next UEFA game after fans directed monkey chants at Legia Warsaw’s Dossa Junior during a 2-0 home defeat in the Europa League on December 12.

The Football Association of Serbia was ordered to partially close its stadium at the next under-21 home game after monkey sounds were heard during a 2-2 draw with Belgium in 2015 European U21 Championship qualifier on November 15.

The Serbs, serial offenders in terms of racism, had already been ordered to play two home under-21 games behind closed doors for racial abuse during a home game against England in October 2012.

UEFA has also ordered the Serbian federation to display, at its next U21 home game, a large banner reading: “No to Racism” and make the captain stand in the middle of the pitch and make a public address system declaration opposing racism.
