BUCHAREST: Tax investigators have raided the offices of the Romanian football league and its former president Dumitru DragomirĀ in an inquiry into the the awarding of television rights.

Local media agencies have reported that deal under suspicion was worth 3m.

A police statement said: “The people under investigation are suspected of having violated the relevant laws between 2011 and 2013 in the awarding of elite division television rights.”

This is the second recent scandal in Romanian football.

In March a number of men, including former national team captain Gheorghe Popescu, were sentenced to prison for accepting bribes in player transfer deals.
