RIO DE JANEIRO: Brazil’s squad to pursue a history sixth World Cup in front of their own fans shows the greatest inter-finals revolution in the last 36 years of the Selecao writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

The 23 players named by coach Luiz Felipe Scolari include no surprises but only five players survive from the squad eliminated in the quarter-finals in South Africa four years ago.

They are goalkeeper Julio Cesar, wingf backs Daniel Alves and Maicon plus centre back Thiago Silva and midfielder Ramires.

The last time only five players survived from a previous was in Argentina in 1978.

One more member of the 2014 squad does possess finals experience: striker Fred, included despite injury problems since his starring role in last year’s triumphant Confederations Cup campaign, was member of the squad beaten in the quarter-finals in Germany in 2006.

Notable, but not surprising absentees, include veterans such as Ronaldinho, Kaka and Robinho who – despite great media support at various times – have failed the ultimate test when summoned by Scolari.

Squad: Julio Cesar, Jefferson, Victor; Dani Alves, Maicon, Maxwell, Marcelo, Thiago Silva, David Luiz, Dante, Henrique, Luiz Gustavo; Ramires, Paulinho, Oscar, Hernanes, Fernandinho, Willian; Neymar, Jo, Hulk, Fred, Bernard.
