ZURICH / PR: International football stadiums have continued to see little activity before the final round of friendlies ahead of the FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil, and the May edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking reflects the results of just 13 new matches. No fewer than 143 teams have retained their April ranking.

There has been some notable movement in the top 10, however, with Brazil climbing two places to 4th to lead the pack of four South American teams ahead of Colombia (5th, down 1), Uruguay (6th, down 1) and Argentina (7th, down 1).

This is Brazil’s best ranking since July 2011. This tightly packed quartet now has the European leading trio of Spain (top, unchanged), Germany (second, unchanged) and Portugal (third, unchanged) firmly in its sights. La Roja have now held the top spot since September 2011.

World Cup finalists Honduras (30th, up two) are celebrating a return to the top 30 after an absence of 12 years. The biggest climb, however, has been achieved by Mauritania from north-west Africa (139th, up 13), thanks to two wins in qualification matches for the Africa Cup of Nations.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking will be published on June 5.
