KEIR RADNEDGE in SAO PAULO: There is no going back for FIFA on the promotion of female power with the two women co-opted last year on to executive committee being re-confirmed for a further 12 months.

World federation president Sepp Blatter told delegates to the ordinary congress of central/north American region that he expected FIFA’s annual gathering to approve the continuance of CONCACAF’s own Sonia Bien-Aime (Turks & Caicos) and Moya Dodd (Australia).

The two were co-opted by FIFA Congress last year when Burundi’s IOC member Lydia Nsekera became the first woman to be voted on to the all-powerful executive committee.

What happens after next year is another matter. Some of the Asian associations have considered pushing for one of the women’s slots to be converted into an extra seat for their own confederation.

Blatter said: “We want to re-elect the two co-opted ladies, Sonie Bien-Aime and Moya Dodd. We will propose to Conrgess to re-elect them for another year and then, in 2015, we will see.”
