MADRID: Leo Messi scored his 400th professional goal and Neymar scored a hat-trick as Barcelona won 6-0 at home to Granada in La Lga at the weekend.

The win means Barca continue with their unbeaten start to the campaign and continued without having conceded a goal.

A tight opening to the game was broken when Neymar latched onto a wayward back-pass to score with a shot to which Granada keeper Roberto reached a hand.

Ivan Rakitic made it 2-0 three minutes from halftime and the game was over as a contest just before the break when Neymar netted his second.

Messi made it 4-0 with his the 400th goal of his career just after the hour, a remarkable figure for a player who is still just 27 years old and he and Neymar rounded off the scoring with further goals to take Barca back to the top of the table.

Valencia had gone into the weekend as leaders and a convincing win away to a struggling Real Sociedad would have taken them back to the top of the table, however, although Carles Gil put them ahead a cross from former Valencia player, Sergio Canales, evaded everyone to end up in the back of the net to ensure a 1-1 draw, which leaves Valencia second.

Real Madrid won 2-0 in Villarreal with goals from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo in a match where the home side created enough chances to have taken a point.

Atletico Madrid returned to form with a 4-1 thrashing of Sevilla, which coincided with Diego Simeone’s return to the dugout after suspension.

Goals from Koke, Saul a Raul Garcia penalty and Raul Jimenez’s first goal for the club gave Atletico a win that was much easier than could have been expected against the side which had begun the weekend third in the table..

Athletic Bilbao were unable to break down a solid Eibar defence in a 0-0 draw in the Basque derby in San Mames.
