LONDON: Liverpool claimed their first win in five games after a strike from Jordan Henderson edged them towards a 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion at Anfield.

The England midfielder collected an assist from Raheem Sterling to cancel out Saido Berahino’s penalty equaliser. Earlier Adam Lallana had claimed his first Liverpool goal only for Dejan Lovren to fell Berahino in his own box.

The England Under-21 midfielder stepped up for the penalty to strike his sixth goal of the season in all competitions, his fourth in three games after two against Burnley.

Former Sunderland man Henderson spared Liverpool’s blushes six minutes later.

Daniel Sturridge, at the centre of an England fitness issue earlier in the week, did not feature at all.

Liverpool manager also dropped disappointing Mariov Balotelli to the subs bench, bringing him into the action in the 64th minute when Liverpool were already 2-1 ahead.

Papiss Cisse’s second brace of goals in three matches this season was not enough to ease the huge pressure on Newcastle manager Alan Pardew.

Newcastle rescued a 2-2 draw at Swansea but are still seeking their first league victory of the campaign.

Wilfried Bony put the hosts ahead with his first goal of the term before Gabriel Obertan set up Cisse just before half-time.

Gylfi Sigurdsson put in Wayne Routledge after the restart, only for Cisse to level again, this time Sammy Ameobi providing the assist.

Steven Fletcher ended a 14-match barren streak for Sunderland, finding the net twice in the Black Cats’ 3-1 home victory over Stoke.

Connor Wickham claimed his first of the campaign to put Sunderland ahead, before Charlie Adam scored just his second goal in 17 matches for the visitors.

Fletcher then wrestled back the lead for Gus Poyet’s men from a Jordi Gomez cross, before Wickham laid on his second.

Hull saw off in-form Crystal Palace with a 2-0 home victory, Mohamed Diame opening the scoring after Andrew Robertson’s cross.

Nikica Jelavic killed the game off in the closing stages, with Jake Livermore providing the assist.

Ross Wallace’s last-gasp free-kick earned Burnley a 2-2 draw with Leicester at the King Power Stadium.

The hosts were heading for victory thanks to goals from Jeff Schlupp and Riyad Mahrez, but Wallace fired a leveller on the stroke of full-time to steal a point for Burnley.

The hosts took the lead with Schlupp firing his first Premier League goal before Michael Kightly equalised.

Leicester hit back just a minute later though, with Mahrez heading home, only for Wallace to level again at the death.
