MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo struck twice as Real Madrid returned to winning ways at the end of a week which saw him crowned for the second successive year as FIFA World Player of the Year.

Gareth Bale scored the other goal in a 3-0 win over Getafe in La Liga but French team-mate Karim Benzema deserved much of the derby credit..

Madrid struggled to break down Getafe side until the 63rd minute when Benzema produced a magnificent piece of control, more suited to a futsal pitch to set up Ronaldo for a simple tap-in.

Four minutes later and James Rodriguez produced an inch-perfect cross across a stretched Getafe defence for Bale to flick home Madrid’s second.

He produced another fine cross with 10 minutes remaining to leave Ronaldo with a straightforward header to round off the scoring as Getafe fell apart.

Madrid had gone into the game with their strongest available side apart from Rafael Varene replacing Pepe in defence after the Portuguese dfender suffered a rib injury during Thursday’s Cup defeat to Atletico Madrid.
