NYON: European federation UEFA has cracked down, as expected, on Montenegro over the Euro 2016 qualifier against Russia in Podgorica which had to be abandoned after repeated crowd trouble writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

UEFA’s control and disciplinary body has awarded the Group G tie by 3-0 to Russia on a walkover. The original match was goalless when it was called off midway through the second half on March 27 by German referee Daniz Aytekin.

First Russia keeper Igor Akinefeyev was felled by a firework in the opening minutes; then the start of the second half was delayed because of crowd trouble; finally another Russia player was struck a further missile thrown from the crowd shortly after an hour’s play.

Montenegro have also been ordered to play their next two matches behind closed doors, with the second match penalty suspended for a year. The Montenegro federation has been fined €50,000 while the Russian Football Union has been fined €25,000 for the misbehaviour of their own fans.

A further closed-door order was inflicted on Croatia for racist behaviour by their fans during the game against Norway on March 28 in Zagreb when supporters also threw objects.

The fan-ban will apply to their home Group H match against Italy on June 12.

Croatia were also fined €50,000.

FA of Montenegro — Incidents: Match not played in full – Art. 27 (1) of the relevant UEFA competition regulations; Setting off/throwing of fireworks and objects – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations

The CEDB has decided to declare the above-mentioned match as forfeited. As a consequence, the Football Association of Montenegro (FSCG) is deemed to have lost the game 3-0.

In addition, the FSCG has been ordered to play its next two UEFA competition matches as host association behind closed doors. The second match to be played behind closed doors is deferred for a probationary period of two years. Finally, the association has been fined €50,000.

Football Union of Russia — Incidents: Improper conduct of supporters – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.

The Football Union of Russia (RFS) has been fined €25,000.
