BAHAMAS: The latest round in the FIFA election beauty contest swinging into the Bahamas for the annual congress of CONCACAF, the central and north American confederation.

President Jeff Webb has promised that there will be no ‘team orders’ for his associations to vote for incumbent Sepp Blatter as in the past under now-disgraced Jack Warner.

However, since most of the delegates are survivors from the days when Trinidadian Warner ran the regional show, it is unlikely Blatter will suffer much slippage when it comes to the world federation’s presidential election in Zurich on May 29.

The three challengers to Blatter – FIFA’s Asian vice-president Prince Ali of Jordan, Dutchman Michael Van Praag and Portugal’s Luis Figo – are all expected to attend but will not be invited to address congress.

Blatter, instead, will make a speech but, formally, only in his role as FIFA president.

Both Van Praag and Figo hope to attract votes, from some of the smaller federations, with promises of more development funds if they win the election.
