—- French insurer Matmut Group has signed a 10-year deal to acquire the naming rights to the new Bordeaux stadium, one of 10 venues hosting next year’s UEFA European Championship finals.

The new home of FC Girondins will be now be known as the Matmut Atlantique stadium. Matmut will have prominent signage throughout the 42,000-seater stadium, which opened in May, including on its roof.

The deal, agreed with stadium operator SBA, is worth €3.9m per year.

Matmut president Daniel Havis said: “This commitment extends our strong investment in the region.”

The group already holds the naming rights to the home of French rugby side Lyon Olympique Universitaire and is the current shirt sponsor of Top 14 club Union Bordeaux-Bègles.

The New Bordeaux Stadium becomes the second Euro 2016 to have a naming rights sponsor, with Allianz having already taken the rights to Nice’s Allianz Riviera.

The Bordeaux stadium was conceived by Herzog and De Meuron, designers of FC Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena as well as Beijing’s ‘Bird’s Nest’ stadium, and built by the Stade Bordeaux Atlantique consortium, a 50:50 venture formed by Vinci and the Fayat Group, under a private-public partnership (PPP) for €184 million.

The venue, which boasts a metallic structure consisting of 900 stanchions designed to resemble the trunks of local Landes pine trees, is due to host five matches during Euro 2016, including four group ties and one quarter-final.
