NEW DELHI: Anwarul Huq, general secretary of the South Asian Football Federation (SAFF), has said that his organisation’s seven members will vote for Michel Platini in the FIFA presidential election.

This follows an expression of support for the European federation president from Sheikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa, the head of the Asian Football Confederation. An election to replace incumbent Sepp Blatter is scheduled for February 26.

Huq said: “The AFC chief has already backed Platini. We will go with the AFC. At the end of the day, voting is an individual thing but we will go with AFC as we always do.”

Chung Mong-joon, the South Korean who is also running for the FIFA presidency, has accused the AFC of dirty tricks over support for Platini.
