BARCELONA: Manchester United tried to lure Neymar from Barcelona just before the close of the transfer window, according to the Brazilian superstar’s father.

In an interview with Fox Sports Neymar Silva Santos, who is also the player’s manager, said: “Barcelona received an offer from United but said they did not want to sell. They did ask us if we were interested and we said No. The offer was made directly to the club.”

Neymar joined Barcelona in 2013 from Santos in a transfer whose fall-out continues to make waves with Barcelona and the club’s past and current presidents facing accusations over tax evasion (which they deny).

The judge, in trying to fix a value on the player in 2013, has asked for paperwork proving the existence of other formal offers from Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City.

In addition Neymar has become the subject of a complaint from Santos over the manner of his departure for the Spanish league.

Santos are claiming for €55m in damages against the player, his father and Barcelona.
