LAUSANNE: David Nakhid has appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport against his exclusion from the FIFA presidency race writes KEIR RADNEDGE.

The former Trinidad and Tobago international was ruled out by the Ad hoc Electoral Committee on October 28 because he did not present the essential five independent nominations.

It emerged that president Hillaren Frederick of the United States Virgin Islands federation had already signed nomination papers for another candidate; federations were permitted to submit only one nomination.

A CAS statement said: “Mr Nakhid seeks the annulment of the challenged decision and an order that his candidacy be reinstated. No hearing date has been fixed for the moment. A procedural calendar will be determined within the next days, after consultation with the parties.”
