LONDON: Louis Van Gaal’s job as manager if Manchester Ubited is not in danger but even former chief executive David Gill has conceded that United are under-achieving.

Gill, a FIFA exco member and now a non-executive director of United, did not even watch the highlights on Match of the Day but went to the cinema instead.

He said, in a BBC Radio interview: “”We all hoped the results will be better. Everyone’s disappointed. I feel that as much as non-executive director as a fan. [This is] undoubtedly a season of underachievement – given the investment that was made.

“Everyone there is working extremely hard to turn that round. It’s not easy.

“What we did in the past was great – Ryan Giggs running down the wing, [David] Beckham etc, [Paul] Scholes. Manchester United going back to the 50s with Matt Busby, when I started supporting them, with George Best, they played in a certain way.

” We want attacking football I’m sure that will be a key part going forward.”
