NYON: Gianni Infantino, the general secretary of European federation UEFA, has received nine two more public votes of confidence in his pursuit of the FIFA presidency.

Infantino is one of five candidates who hope to succeed disgraced and banned Sepp Blatter as head of the world football federation on February 26.

UEFA’s national associations expressed “overwhelming” support for Infantino on Friday and Finland has become the latest FA to express its individual backing.

A statement from the Finnish association said that Infantino “enjoys wide trust and has all the necessary experience and expertise in the world of football.”

In addition the Grenada Football Association has endorsed Infantino’s candidacy as well as seven central American federations.

GFA president Cheney Joseph said at the weekend: “The GFA is lending its support to Mr Gianni. We believe firmly that his manifesto speaks to what our needs are and most importantly it speaks to the need of the Caribbean,” said Joseph who is also a vice president of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU).

“I would encourage my other Caribbean colleagues to do same.

“He has had an affection for the Caribbean, not because of his decision to run for the office, but UEFA has been supporting Caribbean football in many ways and Grenada has been a recipient of many support from them and I’ll only hope that when he steps into the “Oval Office” (FIFA Presidency) he would continue to do not just for Grenada but for football wherever there’s need for further development,” he said.

The Barbados Football Association has already come out in support of Infantino and the latest backers have been joined by Belize, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua,
