SAO PAULO: Palmeiras have struck a new kit sponsorship deal believed to be the largest in Brazilian club soccer.

The São Paulo club announced last week that financial firm Crefisa and Faculdades das Américas (FAM), an educational network, will be the exclusive sponsors of the side’s kit until the end of the 2016 season.

Under the deal the two companies, which share the same parent company, will receive branding in various positions on Palmeiras’ kit. FAM logos will be displayed on the shorts and socks, as well as on the shoulder, sleeve and around the waist of the shirt.

Crefisa, meanwhile, will take the main chest position on the shirt, with additional spots on a shoulder and a sleeve.

According to Maquina do Esporte, the deal is worth 58 million Brazilian reals (US$14.5 million), surpassing the Brazilian record, US$10.4 million shirt agreement Corinthians signed with Caixa last February. Corinthians are yet to announce a new kit sponsorship deal for 2016.

Palmeiras first partnered with Crefisa in January 2015, agreeing a two-year deal worth US$8.93 million per season. The new agreement is an expansion of that contract.

Palmeiras, last year’s Copa do Brasil champions, finished ninth in Brazil’s top tier Campeonato Brasileiro Série A in 2015.
