LONDON: Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney has suffered a knee ligament injury that could rule him out for up to two months.

Rooney was missing from the travelling squad United named for Thursday’s Europa League last-32 first-leg clash at FC Midtjylland. It then emerged that the 30-year-old United and England captain had suffered knee ligament damage that could sideline him for two months.

Rooney, expected to captain England at the Euro 2016 finals in France in June, has suffered a pre-tournament injury jinx stretching back to the 2006 World Cup in Germany.
