RIO DE JANEIRO: The discredited Brazilian football confederation has welcomed rare good news with the extension of its sponsorship with Chevrolet.

The new two-year deal, worth $15 million, sees Chevrolet become the training shirt sponsor for the Brazilian national team, with the US car company having previously sponsored the side’s playing shorts.

Chevrolet replaces Sadia in the training shirt position, the food company having declined, along with Gillette and Michelin, to renew its deal with the scandal-hit CBF earlier this year.

GM-owned Chevrolet has been a sponsor of the CBF since August 2014, when it replaced German rival Volkswagen in a five-year agreement.

The company also backs the CBF’s Brazil Global Tour, the series of international friendlies played around the globe by the Brazilian team, and counts national team manager Dunga among its brand ambassadors.

The CBF has struggled to attract sponsorship since the 2014 World Cup and a series of corruption scandals involving three of its former presidents: Ricardo Teixeira, José Maria Marin and Marco Polo Del Nero.
