BEIJING: Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande Taobao have changed presidents.
Li Yimeng has taken over, after only two months, from Liu Yongzhuo, according to an internal memo signed by the club’s owner, property tycoon Xu Jiayin.
According to Chinese media reports, it is believed that Guangzhou’s underwhelming AFC Champions League performances this season led to Liu’s downfall. The club won the title last year but are bottom of their group after four games this term.
The club, defending champions of the CSL, currently sit second in the league after just seven games. They are managed by 2002 Fifa World Cup winning Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari and boast former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Paulinho and Colombian striker Jackson Martinez among their current squad.
