SEOUL: PyeongChang 2018 has its new leadership ‘face’ after  general assembly of the organising committee for the sto-start 2018 Winter Olympics formally confimed Lee Hee-beom as new president

Lee stepped up in a hurry after the resignation of Cho Yang-ho resigned because of pressing business problems at the Hanjin corporation.

His appointment will be finalised within days by approval from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and he begin get down work on Monday.

First item on his agenda is a two-day visit to the venue sites and an updating briefing session.

He told the general assembly: “The PyeongChang 2018 Games is a historic project that will showcase the development of Korea to the world and put PyeongChang’s name on the map as a major winter sports hub.  I will fully devote myself to deliver a successful Games in 2018.”

The Winter Games are being staged on February 9-25, 2018, with the Paralympic Winter Games on March 9-18 .
