BARCELONA: Barcelona pulled off one of the greatest recoveries in European club competition history when they scored three late, late goals to overcome Paris Saint-Germain and reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.

The Spanish champions appeared down and out when they succumbed 4-0 in the French capital in the first leg but ultimately they claimed the first four-goal comeback in the story of the Champions League to  win 6-1 and 6-5 on aggregate.

The Spanish champions were 5-3 down on aggregate in the 88th minute, but Neymar’s free-kick and penalty followed by Sergi Roberto’s 95th-minute winner sealed victory.

Barcelona had lead 2-0 at the break courtesy of Luis Suarez’s header after just three minutes and Layvin Kurzawa’s own goal. Neymar then fell over Thomas Meunier in the box and Lionel Messi converted the penalty just four minutes into the second half.

Edinson Cavani lashed home for PSG on 61 minutes as the tie looked to be over, but Barcelona obviously had not read the script.

Neymar curled a sumptuous free-kick into the top corner before Suarez won a penalty and gave it to the Brazilian to convert. Substitute Roberto then netted his first-goal of the season in one of the greatest Champions League ties of all time.

Coach Luis Enrique, who has already announced he will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season, said: “Faith is the word that best defines what happened tonight. Above all, this is a victory of faith: tthe faith the players showed, the faith the supporters showed.

“I have only ever seen the stadium like this once before, and that was back when I was playing.

“Normally with 10 minutes to go, people are leaving the stadium. But tonight they didn’t. If any went, screw them, they have missed out on an historic night. In the end we have had a special night.”

** Borussia Dortmund also reached the quarter-finals after a 4-0 win over Benfica.
