ROME: Juventus have a perfect treble within their sights after the almost-recrowned Italian champions defeated Lazio 2-0 to land a third successive Italian Cup.

Goals from Dani Alves and Leonardo Bonucci kept them on course for a treble this season with a 2-0 victory in the Olympic Stadium on Wednesday.

The ‘Old Lady’ of Calcio are expected to secure a sixth successive Serie A scudetto before facing holders Real Madrid in the Champions League final in Cardiff on June 3.

They can clinch Serie A with a win over Crotone having missed their chance in a 3-1 defeat on Sunday away to Roma, who are four points behind with two fixtures remaining.

Coach Massimiliano Allegri , after a record 12th domestic cup triumph, said: “Compliments to the lads for what they did in the first half and for coming through a defensive test in the second.

“We’ve won the first title, now we want to clinch the second, Sunday against Crotone. They have taken 17 points from the last seven games so it’s going to be a difficult match.”

In SPAIN Real Madrid moved within one point of the LaLiga title when they won 4-1 away to Celta in Vigo with goals from Cristiano Ronaldo (two), Karim Benzema and Toni Kroos. Madrid end the season away to Malaga on Sunday evening.

In ENGLAND Manchester United assured themselves of ‘only’ a sixth-placed finish after a 0-0 draw away to Southampton.

Huddersfield remained on course for a return to the elite after 45 years by defeating Yorkshire neighbours Sheffield Wednessday in a penalty shootout in the second leg of their promotion playoff semi-final. They will play Reading in the final.
