Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Champions League second round qualifying first leg match between Linfield FC and Celtic FC (0-2), played on 14 July in Northern Ireland.


Charges against Linfield FC:

  • Throwing of objects – Art. 16 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR)
  • Field invasion by supporters – Art. 16 (2) DR


Charges against Celtic FC:

  • Player Leigh Griffiths – provoking spectators (after the end of the match) – Art. 15 (1) (a) DR
  • Improper conduct of the team (5 cards or more)  – Art. 15 (4) DR


This case will be dealt with by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body on 20 July.

Beşiktaş JK appeal dismissed


The UEFA Appeals Body met on 13 July following an appeal by Beşiktaş JK against the decision announced by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) on 19 April relating to the incidents which occurred during the UEFA Europa League quarter-final first leg match between Olympique Lyonnais and Besiktas JK (2-1) played on 13 April in France.

The CEDB decided to exclude Beşiktaş JK from participating in the next UEFA club competition for which it will qualify. This exclusion is deferred for a probationary period of two (2) years. The Turkish club were also been fined €100,000. The charges against the Turkish club were related to crowd disturbances, setting off of fireworks and throwing of objects.

Following its meeting last week, the UEFA Appeals Body meeting has decided that the appeal lodged by Beşiktaş JK has been dismissed. Consequently, the CEDB’s decision of 19 April 2017 is confirmed.
