MADRID: Real Madrid, according to Spanish media reports, have agreed in principle with Monaco to buy in-demande teenager Kylian Mbappé for a world record €180m.

The sum would be made up of €160m ‘basic’ plus €20m adds-on. The only threat to the deal’s record status would be any agreement between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona for the sale of Brazil superstar Neymar.

Sources in Spain suggest that Mbappe would earn around €7m-a-season.

Endorsement of the pursuit of Mbappe has apparently come from the world, European and Spanish champions’ coach Zinedine Zidane who is currently with the squad on pre-season tour in the United States.

As part of the deal, Mbappe would be loaned back to French champions Monaco for this coming season.
