BELFAST: Northern Ireland boss Michael O’Neill has signed a contract extension on a deal that runs until 2024.

The 48-year-old has agreed improved terms with the Irish Football Association having last month passed on the chance to become the Scotland manager following talks with the Scottish Football Association.

O’Neill was appointed in December 2011 and led his country to the last 16 at Euro 2016, their first major tournament in 30 years.

He then led Northern Ireland to a World Cup play-off where they were narrowly beaten by Switzerland over two legs in November.
