GLASGOW: Alex McLeish has agreed to return to duty as manager of Scotland on a contract until 2020.
The former Rangers, Birmingham and Aston Villa boss was first appointed Scotland boss in 2007, leaving his post less than a year in to take charge of Birmingham City after narrowly missing out on qualification for Euro 2008.
Michael O’Neill turned down the opportunity to succeed Gordon Strachan – who left his post in October after Scotland failed to reach the World Cup finals – opting to extend his deal with Northern Ireland.
McLeish, who made 77 appearances for his country as a player, has also managed Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest, Belgian side Genk and Egyptian club Zamalek.
Scotland play Costa Rica at Hampden on March 23 before an away game against Hungary four days later.
