GLASGOW: Steven Gerrard has been appointed as Rangers’ boss on a four-year contract for his first venture into football management.

The 37-year-old former Liverpool midfielder and captainj succeeds Graeme Murty, who was dismissed earlier this sweek after being placed in interim charge following the October sacking of Pedro Caixinha.

Gerrard, who leaves his role as a youth coach at Anfield, made 710 appearances and won nine trophies for Liverpool over 19 years and won 114 England caps.

Gerrard retired in 2016 and joined the youth set-up at Anfield after rejecting an offer to become manager of MK Dons.
