GIBSON WINS CIRCUIT TITLE WITH THRILLING SPRINT FINISH

Matt Gibson won a thrilling sprint finish to edge out defending champion Tom Pidcock and claim the HSBC UK | National Circuit Championships title in Stockton tonight.

Gibson and his JLT Condor team-mates looked to be perfectly positioned going into the final stages of the race, but Pidcock (Team Wiggins) launched an attack and took the lead during the final lap, only for Gibson to outsprint him to take the national champion’s jersey.

Afterwards, Gibson said:

“I knew at the start of the day that if it came down to a sprint, I’d back myself. It was all about getting in the right position to take the win, and the team did a great job to get me into that spot.”

Gibson’s team-mate Jon Mould took bronze.

Earlier in the evening, Cycle Team OnForm’s Anna Henderson took the women’s title with a fantastic solo ride, winning by over a minute from Jo Tindley (NJC Biemme-Echelon) who claimed silver, and Team Breeze’s national road race champion Jess Roberts in third.
