A play on the Japanese expression “go-go” meaning 55, the title depicts the number of sports that will feature at the Olympic and Paralympic Tokyo 2020

— The Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (Tokyo 2020) is launching a sporting initiative aimed at the public called “Tokyo 2020 Let’s 55”.

The project will incorporate events across Japan in the months leading up to 2020 where the public can try out some of the 55 Olympic and Paralympic sports. Organised in collaboration with Mitsui Fudosan,
one of Japan’s leading real estate companies, it will kick off with an opening ceremony in Tokyo on Thursday 16 August 2018.
Supported by various Tokyo 2020 sponsors, the project also forms part of Tokyo 2020’s Nationwide Participation Programme, which aims to promote the involvement of local authorities across Japan in the
hosting of sport events that engage their local communities. Tokyo 2020 believes this initiative will help spur the participation of young people in sports activities, one of the planned legacies of the Tokyo 2020
Games.
Taking place during 16 – 19 August 2018, the programme will feature various stage performances by
athletes together with booths where members of the public can try out some of the sports. A total of 21
sports – 13 Olympic and 8 Paralympic sports – will feature in these booths.
