DOHA: A Nepali worker has died while working on one of the sites of the new stadia which will host the World Cup finals in Qatar in 2022.
Qatar’s Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy said in a statement that the 23-year-old worker died at its Al Wakrah Stadium project site. The cause remains unstated pending the outcome of an investigation.
One of the issues which has dogged the Qatari organisers had been the conditions of workers on World Cup projects. The Supreme Committee has imposed its own internationally-approved standards though this does not apply to ancillary projects in the Gulf state.
Zachary Cox, a British worker, died in a fall while working on the redevelopment of the Khalifa International Stadium.
