BERLIN: One of the members of the Pussy Riot group arrested for a pitch invasion at the World Cup Final is being treated in Germany after allegedly been poisoned.

Pyotr Verzilov, the husband of prominent band member Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, was flown to Berlin on Saturday, according to Germany’s Cinema for Peace Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian group which organised the flight.

Verzilov had been in the intensive care unit at a Moscow hospital according to Jaka Bizilj, founder of the Cinema For Peace initiative and chairman of its foundation board.

The Russian protest punk band had stated last week via its Twitter account that Verzilov’s life was in danger, adding: “We think that he was poisoned.”

Verzilov was one of four protesters dressed as police officers who invaded the pitch in the middle of the World Cup Final in the Luzhniki Stadium between France and Croatia.

Within minutes Pussy Riot had claimed responsibility for the protest and called for political prisoners to be freed and for an end to the arrests and harassment of opposition figures.
