TUNIS: Esperance of Tunisia are the new club champions of Africa after overturning eight-times holders Al Ahly of Egypt in the second leg of the continent’s Champions League Final.
The Tunisia outfit had lost 3-1 in Cairo but hit back to triumph 3-0 in front of their own fans and thus 4-3 on aggregate. This was Esperance’s third triumph after previous successes in 1994 and 2011. They have been runners-up on four occasions.
Saad Bguir scored both sides of half-time before Anice Badri struck the decisive goal in front of a capacity crowd in the Rades stadium which included Gianni Infantino, president of world federation FIFA.
