ZURICH/ABU DHABI: Jair Marrufo from the United States will referee Saturday’s final of the FIFA Club World Cup between Real Madrid and Al Ain at the Zayed Sports City Stadium in Abu Dhabi.
Marrufo, who has been a FIFA referee since 2007, took charge of Belgium’s 5-2 victory over Tunisia at the World Cup finals in Russia in June.
Frank Anderson and Corey Rochwell, also from the US, will be his assistant referees.
Al Ain, from host nation United Arab Emirates, are chasing history in the attempt to become the first non-European or South American outfit to win the world club prize.
They sprung a semi-final surprise by defeating South American champions River Plate from Argentina on penalties after a 2-2 draw.
Madrid, WHO defeated Japan’s Kashima Antlers 3-1 with a hat-trick from Gareth Bale, will be without injured Marco Asensio in the final.
