ZURICH: FIFA has registered a record nine expressions of interest in hosting the finals of the 2023 Women’s World Cup.

All nine FAs have been sent the overview and bidding registration documents and have until April 16 to submit a formal bidding registration to the world governing body.

The nine include a potential cohosting bid from North and South Koreas.

FIFA Council, as confirmed at last week’s meeting in Miami, will decide on the host in March next year after which the individual votes of council members will be made public.

The nine prospective bidders are Argentina, Australia, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Japan, New Zealand, joint North Korea and South Korea plus South Africa.

A FIFA statement said: “In line with the principles outlined in the overview document available on FIFA.com and with the bidding for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, FIFA will implement a fair and transparent process, which will include a clear evaluation model as well as a concrete commitment to sustainability and human rights.

“All bid books will be published in full on FIFA.com in October 2019. ”

The 2019 Women’s World Cup is being staged in France in June and July.
