NYON/TURIN: Cristiano Ronaldo has been fined €20,000 by European federation UEFA for a gesture to fans while celebrating in Juventus’ Champions League victory over Atletico Madrid last week.

Ronaldo escaped a ban and will thus be able to line yp against Ajax Amsterdam in next month’s quarter-finals.

The Portuguese veteran scored a hat-trick as Juventus turned around the tie to reach the quarter-finals. He celebrated by copying an offensive gesture made by Atletico coach Diego Simeone after the Spanish club’s opening goal in the first leg of the tie.
