CHICAGO:  Mexico secured a record eighth CONCACAF Gold Cup by defeating the United States 1-0 in the final in Soldier Field, Chicago.

Jonathan Dos Santos, who plays his club football in the US for LA GAlaxy,  struck the lone winning goal in the 73rd minute for El Tri who took the title despite the absence of several key players.

Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic was  the most dangerous US player. His 51st minute corner set up their best chance for Jordan Morris whose header was cleared off the line by Andres Guardado.

Cristian Roldan wasted a chance to equalise three minutes from the end in front of  a Mexican-dominated 62,493 crowd.

Mexico were playing in their first tournament under new coach Tata Martino. They have not lost a competitive match to the US since 2013.
