ACCRA: Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku is new president of the Ghana Football Association in succession to disgraced Kwesi Nyantakyi.

The president of Dreams FC went into the polls with five other contestants including two former vice-presidents in George Afriyie and Fred Pappoe as well as president of Phar Rangers FC Nana Yaw Amponsah as well as lawyers George Ankomah Mensah and Amanda Clinton.

The first round of voting saw Okraku poll 44 votes with Afriyie on 40, Nana Yaw Amponsah 27 and Pappoe six. Nana Yaw Ankomah and Clinton had no votes.

As none of the contestants had polled the required 51pc that meant further voting. Pappoe pulled out to leave Okraku, Afriyie and Amponsah. At the end of the second round Okraku polled 59 votes with Afriyie 43 and Amponsah 16.  Afriyie duly conceded to leave only Okraku in the final round of voting in which he polled 93 votes.

Okraru is a member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana which has officially congratulated him on his victory.
