KEIR RADNEDGE REPORTS: The post-Hoeness era at German champions Bayern Munich has begun officially with the election of former Adidas supremo Herbert Hainer as chairman of the main supervisory board.

The 65-year-old has taken over from Uli Hoeness whose outspoken and controversial tenure ended in his expected retirement in November.

Hoeness, 67, had been restored to the chairmanship after serving a jail term for tax evasion but that was always on the understanding that he would not stay around for long.

He had proposed Hainer as successor and will maintain an influence as one of the deputy chairmen of the supervisory board.  Other deputies arre Herbert Diess (management board chair of Volkswagen) and Werner Zedelius (senior advisor, Allianz).

Hainer was ceo of adidas AG for 15 years (2001 to 2016) and has been a deputy chairman of the supervisory board since the reorganising creation of FC Bayern München AG in 2002.

He took over the chair on an interim basis during Hoeness’s court-enforced absence from March to September 2014.
